Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives with understanding of their weaker nature yet showing them honor as co-heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

1 Peter 3:7

Husbands, how is you marriage right now? You want to know: check and see how vibrant your prayer life is, is God hearing and answering your prayers? If not, I might know the problem.

Peter says in our verse that a hindrance to the prayers of a husband is failure to love, honor, respect, and treat his wife as God does. So,when there is a serious conflict in marriage or the family and the head of the household is not showing Christ,  his communication with God is literally cut off. The word “hinder” in Greek is the picture here is cutting a branch from a tree.  The result of “cutting off” is to render the branch incapable of producing fruit. Strong words!

So, men you are to honor to your wife: show respect, love, care, concern, admiration and praise.

Because women are weaker: this means they need to protected and cherished.  Here it is referring to physically, and in social standing in Peter’s day. So the fact that a woman is weaker does not mean that she is inferior to man; the Bible never suggests this. Neither does it mean that she might not actually be stronger in some areas. As a matter of fact, women are generally more devoted to Christ than men. And they usually are better able to bear prolonged pain and adversity(child birth!!).

So men are you fulfilling Eph 5:25-26  “Husbands, love your wives, just as also Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, to make her holy, cleansing her in the washing of water by the word.” If you are not then you are sending up lead balloon prayers and severely hindering and hurting your wife, ministry, work, and home.
Got to go home and honor my wife! Pastor Phillip
